Griffith Laboratories began making these spice sets in 1939 and they were immediately popular, and are now highly collectible. They were originally sold through the home furnishings departments of Marshall Field's, Macy's and other fine stores. Sets were sold in a variety of colors, including red, black, yellow, and blue among others.
The jars in this 8-piece set are the standard size at 4.25" tall. The milk glass features vertical art deco columns on the front and side panels, and two raised horizontal bars with four short columns on the back.
The milk glass jars are free of any chips or cracks. The blue metal caps are in fair vintage condition with light paint wear but no major dents or flaws. I am unsure whether this is original blue paint or if the caps were repainted at a later time; the paint job is not perfectly smooth or clean.
These jars have been stripped of their original labels both front and back, as well as their interior metal sifter inserts. The spice contents have been emptied and the interiors are clean. The original rack is no longer present.
Jar Height: 4.25"
Light wear consistent with age and use. Please read the full description for additional condition details.
